Leapmotor’s founder and his concert parties have once again showed their confidence in the company’s growth by increasing their stake in the company. Despite the fact that Leapmotor’s shares have reached an all-time high in Hong Kong, Zhu Jiangming, along with Fu Liquan and his wife, purchased 6.81 million shares for HK$316 million in April.
This recent purchase adds to last year’s investment of over HK$300 million, solidifying the founder’s commitment to the company’s future. Following this increase, Zhu and Fu’s shareholder group now own a total of 205,546,438 H shares and 128,517,839 domestic shares, representing 24.99 percent of the total shares in issue.
The move to increase their stake is driven by a strong belief in Leapmotor’s future development and aims to promote sustainable, stable, and healthy growth while safeguarding the interests of public investors. Leapmotor, a Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker backed by Stellantis NV, received a significant investment of 1.5 billion euros from Stellantis in 2023, making it the largest external shareholder in the company.
In August 2024, Leapmotor announced plans for Zhu and the Fu family to further increase their holdings in the company’s Hong Kong-traded shares by up to RMB 300 million. As of now, Leapmotor’s shares in Hong Kong have risen by 70 percent this year, reaching HK$54.75, just below its all-time high of HK$58.45.
Leapmotor has shown strong financial performance, reporting a net income of RMB 80.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2024, marking its first quarterly earnings turnaround since its establishment in 2015. The company delivered 293,724 vehicles in 2024, a 103.76 percent increase from the previous year, with a target of 500,000 to 600,000 vehicle sales in 2025.
In the first quarter of this year, Leapmotor delivered 87,552 vehicles, representing a 162.05 percent year-on-year growth. The company’s success and growth trajectory have positioned it as one of the new forces in the Chinese car-making industry.
Looking ahead, Leapmotor and Stellantis are set to begin production of the Leapmotor C10 SUV in Malaysia by the end of 2025, further expanding their presence and offerings in the electric vehicle market. With a strong foundation and ambitious goals, Leapmotor continues to make significant strides in the EV industry.
