Leapmotor has recently introduced the updated C16 SUV, offering a more competitive pricing strategy and adding five-seat options to attract a wider range of customers. With a starting price of RMB 151,800 ($21,130), the 2026 C16 is positioned as a cost-effective choice in the new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The new model offers eight variants, including four extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options and four battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants. The EREV variants start at RMB 151,800, with the highest-priced variant at RMB 171,800. On the other hand, the BEV variants range from RMB 161,800 to RMB 181,800. Notably, the RMB 168,800 EREV variant and the RMB 178,800 BEV variant are five-seat versions, catering to customers looking for a more compact option.

In terms of performance, the C16 EREV is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine and a rear motor delivering a power output of 170 kW and a torque of 320 Nm. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.46 seconds, with a top speed of 170 km/h. The EREV models offer lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack options with capacities ranging from 28.4 kWh to 38.7 kWh, providing electric ranges of up to 280 km.

On the other hand, the BEV variants feature a rear motor with a power output of 220 kW and a torque of 360 Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.37 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h. With LFP battery packs ranging from 74.9 kWh to 81.9 kWh, the BEV models offer impressive electric ranges of up to 630 km.

The C16 SUV initially launched in June 2024, with only six-seat versions available. However, in response to market demand, Leapmotor introduced two six-seat BEV variants earlier this year. The company’s May delivery data revealed that the C16 contributed significantly to Leapmotor’s monthly sales, with 4,340 units delivered, accounting for 9.6 percent of the total deliveries.

Leapmotor’s continuous innovation and expansion of its product lineup demonstrate its commitment to meeting customer needs and remaining competitive in the NEV market. The updated C16 SUV offers a compelling combination of performance, range, and affordability, making it a strong contender in the increasingly crowded electric vehicle segment.
