Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) has unveiled more images of its upcoming Lafa 5 model, set to make its debut at the Munich auto show on September 8. The hatchback is expected to compete with popular models such as the Volkswagen ID.3, SAIC MG4, BYD Seagull, and Nio Firefly EV.
Cao Li, vice president of Leapmotor, took to Weibo to share three new images showcasing the side profile and rear design of the Lafa 5. The model features roof-mounted LiDAR technology and a hatchback design similar to BYD’s successful Seagull model.
The Lafa 5 is described as a “gift” from Leapmotor to young people worldwide in celebration of the company’s 10th anniversary. Cao hinted that the model will be launched in both Chinese and overseas markets, aiming to create a “Dream Car” for young individuals who reject conformity and seek uniqueness.
Leapmotor’s founder, chairman, and CEO, Zhu Jiangming, previously announced plans for four series of vehicles – A, B, C, and D – over the next three years. These series will encompass a total of 13 to 14 models with prices ranging from RMB 60,000 to RMB 300,000.
The current lineup of Leapmotor in China includes models like the T03, B10, B01, C01, C10, C11, and C16. While the T03, B01, and B10 are exclusively battery electric vehicles (BEVs), others offer extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options.
In August, Leapmotor achieved a record-high delivery of 57,066 vehicles, marking the company’s fourth consecutive month of record-breaking performance. This milestone represents an 88.31 percent year-on-year increase and a 13.84 percent rise from the previous month.
With the introduction of the Lafa 5, Leapmotor aims to solidify its position in the competitive electric hatchback market and continue its momentum in the electric vehicle industry. Stay tuned for the official unveiling of the Lafa 5 at the Munich auto show on September 8.
