In 2023, Lexus delivered a total of 824,258 vehicles worldwide, and last year they reached a record-breaking 851,214 vehicles. These numbers are in line with the Toyota Motor Company’s typical success, but there is no boasting or mention of a one million car target by the company’s leadership.
Lexus has been steadily growing its sales, with 2024 marking a milestone as the brand sold 181,906 vehicles, its best result yet. Interestingly, all vehicles were imported, attracting duty fees that are not publicly discussed by Lexus or its parent company.
After years of waiting and observation, Toyota Motor Company is finally ready to start local production in China. Unlike traditional joint ventures, this will be a TMC-owned plant, potentially explaining the lengthy approval process. The first car expected to be produced in Shanghai is the future ES.
Project XZ20, previously teased as the LS-ZC concept, is set to debut in mid-2026. The next ES will be based on TMC’s GA-K platform and will cater to the Chinese market with a length of 5,140 mm. The wheelbase will be 2,950 mm, meeting the demand for an extended wheelbase model.
The next ES generation will include three variants, featuring two hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and two electric vehicles (EVs). These models will offer various power outputs and drivetrain configurations to cater to different consumer preferences.
While details about US production remain unclear, the next RZ is expected to launch in 2028 with updated features like simulated shifting and steer-by-wire technology. Additionally, Lexus continues to offer diesel powertrains in select markets, with the LX lineup receiving updates and new variants.
Looking ahead, Lexus is gearing up to launch new models like a big electric SUV in 2027 and potentially a follow-up to the legendary LFA sports car. The brand’s commitment to innovation and expanding its lineup showcases its dedication to meeting evolving market demands.
