Li Auto to update existing models in May, bringing smart driving hardware upgrades

Li Auto is set to make some major upgrades to its smart driving technology in its upcoming models. One of the key changes will be the use of Nvidia Thor-U chips in the updated versions of its vehicles. Additionally, Li Auto will be adding LiDARs to its less expensive variants, making this component a standard feature across all models.

The company recently provided a sneak peek into its product planning for the year, addressing concerns from potential customers about the introduction of new models potentially rendering their purchases obsolete. Despite not having any 2025 model-year updates for its L-series models and the Li Mega, Li Auto will be launching smart-driving-edition updates in May based on existing models. These updates will focus on upgrading the smart driving hardware, while retaining the current battery, electric drive, exterior, and interior styling.

Li Auto is a prominent player in the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) market in China, with its lineup consisting mainly of L-series extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). The company’s SUV models, including the Li L6, L7, L8, and L9, have garnered significant attention in the market. In addition, Li Auto recently introduced its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model, the Li Mega MPV.

In the upcoming updates scheduled for May, Li Auto will be upgrading the chips in its AD Max smart driving solution to the more advanced Nvidia Thor-U chip. This upgrade will enable the AD Max system to offer enhanced assisted driving and full-scenario NOA capabilities. Furthermore, Li Auto will be equipping its AD Pro smart driving system with LiDARs, upgrading the chip to Horizon Robotics’ J6M chip. This will bring the AD Pro system on par with the AD Max in terms of active-safety capabilities.

Li Auto is also offering limited-time purchase incentives for its L-Series and Li Mega models, including three years of zero-interest financing and cash subsidies. However, these incentives will be scaled back once the updated models are launched in May.

Overall, Li Auto’s commitment to upgrading its smart driving technology and incorporating LiDARs across all its models demonstrates the company’s dedication to innovation and enhancing the driving experience for its customers. Stay tuned for more updates on Li Auto’s upcoming models and advancements in smart driving technology.
