LiveWire S4 Honcho? A new heavyweight electric motorcycle?

Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire brand is hinting at the launch of a new electric motorcycle model called the “S4 Honcho,” as per a recent trademark filing with the USPTO. The filing mentions the use of the trademark for “electric motorcycles and structural parts therefor,” sparking speculation about what this new model could entail.

LiveWire currently offers two motorcycle platforms: the flagship LiveWire One and the more affordable S2 line. The S2 line includes models like the S2 Del Mar, S2 Mulholland, and S2 Alpinista, with recent sales offering significant discounts. The company has also teased two upcoming models expected to be part of the new S3 platform. The introduction of the “S4 Honcho” could potentially signify the development of an entirely new platform, possibly a larger, premium electric motorcycle catering to touring or adventure riding.

The name “Honcho” suggests a bold and assertive character, raising questions about the specific target market for this new model. Could it be LiveWire’s entry into the ADV segment or a full-size electric cruiser aimed at traditional Harley riders transitioning to electric vehicles? The possibility of competing with heavier gas motorcycles is also a consideration, pointing towards a strategic move to diversify LiveWire’s product lineup and appeal to a wider audience.

While trademark filings do not guarantee immediate production or release of a product, LiveWire’s decision to trademark the name “S4 Honcho” indicates a more concrete development plan. It is common practice for companies to secure intellectual property rights early on, even if the actual product may take time to materialize. The potential introduction of the S4 Honcho signifies LiveWire’s commitment to innovation and expansion within the electric motorcycle market.

As the industry continues to evolve with more brands entering the e-moto space, LiveWire faces both challenges and opportunities in establishing its presence and attracting a diverse customer base. The upcoming launch of the S4 Honcho could signify a significant step towards achieving these goals and solidifying LiveWire’s position in the electric motorcycle market.
