Lucid Motors is gearing up to launch its first electric SUV, the Gravity, and is simultaneously working on developing three new midsize EVs that are expected to be priced at around $50,000 each. The company’s former CEO, Peter Rawlinson, emphasized the innovative technologies that Lucid has been developing, which are aimed at driving down costs and making EVs more affordable.
In an interview with ABC News, Rawlinson highlighted Lucid’s in-house tech as the key to unlocking greater efficiency and ultimately lowering prices. He mentioned that the target starting price for the new midsize EVs would be around $50,000, positioning them in direct competition with Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y.
The interim CEO of Lucid, Marc Winterhoff, confirmed that the company is on track to launch its midsize platform by late 2026, with production set to ramp up the following year. Winterhoff reiterated the target starting price of $50,000 for the upcoming EVs and mentioned that Lucid has three new models in the pipeline, with two of them scheduled to be released in close succession.
Last year, Lucid revealed plans to introduce an electric crossover, sedan, and a third undisclosed vehicle on the midsize platform. A teaser image of the midsize crossover SUV was released last September, offering a glimpse of what’s to come. The company recently unveiled its new Phoenix Hub, where the first midsize prototypes will be developed.
While the focus is currently on increasing production of the Gravity SUV, Winterhoff expressed excitement over the positive feedback received for the vehicle. He described the response as “phenomenal” and noted that it surpasses anything he’s seen during his 25 years in the automotive industry.
Overall, Lucid Motors is poised to make a significant impact in the EV market with its upcoming midsize EVs, offering consumers a more affordable alternative without compromising on performance or technology. Stay tuned for further updates as Lucid continues to revolutionize the electric vehicle industry.
