Mack Trucks and Terex Utilities are set to unveil their latest zero-emissions utility bucket trucks at Work Truck Week in Indiana later this month, and the new vehicle is generating a lot of excitement.
Developed on a Mack MD7 Electric Class 7 chassis, the new Terex bucket truck is designed to be a zero-emission utility vehicle that can travel longer distances and carry more cargo. This makes it ideal for upgrading or restoring power in areas where it is needed most.
To power the vehicle, Terex has installed an Optima HR55 aerial device that draws power from a HyPower SmartPTO from Viatec. This innovative system replaces a conventional mechanical PTO that is powered by an internal combustion generator, resulting in a quieter operation and reducing exposure to toxic exhaust fumes and particulate emissions.
Tyler Schwingler, Terex Utilities product marketing manager, explains that the collaboration with Mack Trucks represents a significant step forward in zero-emissions utility vehicles. The combination of the Optima HR55 aerial device with Mack’s MD7 Electric chassis provides utility companies with a sustainable solution that does not compromise on performance or capability.
In addition to helping meet ESG goals, the Mack MD Electric is equipped with the advanced 3rd Eye digital platform, which integrates AI-driven camera systems to enhance safety and productivity. With up to six HD cameras providing a real-time, 460-degree view on a 7-inch in-cab monitor, blind spots are virtually eliminated when operating in high-traffic job sites.
George Fotopoulos, vice president of E-mobility at Mack Trucks, notes that the electric bucket truck represents the next step in the company’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. The lightweight electric chassis combined with Terex’s expertise in utility equipment delivers a solution that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in zero-emissions utility vehicles.
Terex will be showcasing its new Mack MD Electric-based utility bucket truck at this year’s Work Truck Week at the Indianapolis Convention Center.
Overall, the Mack MD Electric bucket truck raises the bar for zero-emissions utility vehicles with its impressive range and rear axle capacity. With parts availability and support from parent company Volvo, known for its quality and progressive ideologies, the Mack MD Electric is sure to be a standout in the industry.
