Supercar company McLaren Automotive has teamed up with Divergent Technologies to develop advanced suspension hardware for their latest supercar model, the McLaren W1. Launched recently, the McLaren W1 is the successor to the iconic McLaren F1 and P1 models.

The collaboration with Divergent Technologies involves utilizing their additive manufacturing technology to create components that enhance the vehicle’s performance and driver engagement. The McLaren W1 features a Formula 1-inspired front suspension system integrated directly into the Aerocell carbon fiber monocoque.

Divergent’s additive manufacturing technology has played a crucial role in the development of the sophisticated suspension systems for the McLaren W1. The technology ensures optimal durability and stiffness in key components such as the front upper wishbone, aeroform lower wishbone, and front upright. The 3D-printed front wishbones, visibly external, are among the structural suspension components produced by Divergent for the W1.

The partnership with Divergent has enabled McLaren engineers to iterate designs quickly, advancing the development of the supercar’s suspension hardware. Known for its lightweight supercars, McLaren Automotive was established in 2010 and now forms the largest part of the McLaren Group.

McLaren Automotive CEO Michael Leiters expressed excitement about the partnership with Divergent, emphasizing their dedication to innovation in manufacturing and engineering. He highlighted how the cutting-edge technology has facilitated the development of more complex suspension structures in the McLaren W1, enhancing the driving experience and supporting McLaren’s mission to push the boundaries of performance.

Divergent founder, chairman, and CEO Kevin Czinger also shared his pride in partnering with McLaren on their latest engineering marvel, the W1. He emphasized how the suspension hardware designed and manufactured by Divergent has allowed the McLaren team to push the boundaries in the digital manufacturing age of supercar production.
