Chery, a prominent automotive manufacturer in China, has recently launched a new electric SUV called the QQ Domi, priced at less than $10,000. This move comes amidst a fierce competition in the Chinese electric vehicle market, with Chery aiming to make a mark with its affordable and stylish offering.
The base model of the Chery QQ Domi starts at a promotional price of 54,900 yuan ($8,300) and offers a range of 305 km (190 miles) on a single charge. For those looking for more range, there is an extended-range model available, offering a range of 405 km for a price of 69,900 yuan, still well under the $10,000 mark.
Measuring at just 3,720 mm in length, 1,700 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, the Chery QQ Domi is a compact SUV that rivals the popular BYD Seagull EV in size. Both versions of the QQ Domi come equipped with modern features such as a 10.25″ floating central infotainment screen, a 7″ driver display, voice recognition, rear park radar, and a reversing camera. The higher-priced trim also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing the vehicle to power external devices and appliances.
Powering the Chery QQ Domi is a 28.5 kWh battery for the base model and a larger 39.33 kWh battery for the extended-range version. Both batteries can be fast-charged from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes, offering convenience for users on the go.
In the competitive Chinese EV market, the Chery QQ Domi will go head-to-head with the BYD Seagull EV, which is priced similarly starting at 69,800 yuan ($9,700). With recent price cuts from BYD bringing the starting price down to 55,800 yuan ($7,800), the market is heating up with a new round of price wars. The China Automobile Manufacturers Association (CAMA) has raised concerns about this price war, stating that it could lead to a compression of profit margins for automakers.
Overall, the launch of the Chery QQ Domi marks an exciting development in the affordable electric vehicle segment in China, offering consumers a stylish and budget-friendly option in the growing market for electric vehicles.
