Restoring a Rare Ferrari Testarossa Spider
Scott’s journey to acquiring a unique Ferrari Testarossa Spider began with a search for an engine cover for his 1990 Testarossa coupe. During his online browsing, he stumbled upon a four-year-old ad for an unfinished Testarossa spider project car located in California.
Intrigued by the opportunity, Scott contacted the seller and was surprised to find out that the car was still available. The seller had initially intended to restore the vehicle but had left it sitting in his garage untouched. Determined to breathe new life into the neglected project, Scott struck a deal with the owner and had the car shipped to the UK at a total cost of £16,000.
The Ferrari Testarossa Spider is a rare collector’s item, with only one original model ever produced by Ferrari for company boss Gianni Agnelli in 1986. This authentic version was later sold for a staggering £1.2 million in 2016. Despite the existence of several replica versions, including Scott’s, the original remains unparalleled in craftsmanship.
Scott’s car has a unique history, having been used by a US kit car company as a template for their replica Testarossas. However, at some point, the roof was removed, likely due to an accident, prompting Ferrari to intervene to protect its intellectual property rights.
