Mercedes-AMG starts cold weather testing

Mercedes-AMG has embarked on cold weather testing for its upcoming high-performance electric SUV, a crucial milestone in its development journey. The SUV, based on the all-electric AMG.EA architecture, is currently undergoing rigorous trials in the freezing temperatures of northern Sweden. This testing phase is vital to guarantee that all vehicle components perform optimally even in harsh conditions.

The winter testing, conducted in sub-zero temperatures, focuses on meticulously evaluating the interaction of all vehicle components. This process is essential to ensure that the SUV can withstand extreme cold weather scenarios and deliver optimal performance.

The new high-performance electric SUV showcases Mercedes-AMG’s commitment to innovative high-performance drives. It incorporates axial flux motors and a new high-performance battery concept, setting it apart from traditional models. The use of axial-flux motors, known for their compact and lightweight design, is a key highlight of the new architecture.

In addition to the electric SUV, Mercedes-AMG is also working on a four-door coupe model that will serve as an electric alternative to the current GT 4-Door Coupe liftback. The coupe model is expected to debut first, possibly towards the end of 2025, followed by the electric SUV in 2026.

In a significant development, Mercedes-AMG announced its plans to develop its first standalone high-performance SUV, “Born in Affalterbach,” entirely in-house. This marks a historic moment in the company’s 57-year history, showcasing its dedication to innovation and performance.

Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz recently inaugurated a battery recycling plant in Kuppenheim, southern Germany, as part of its sustainability efforts. The facility utilizes an integrated mechanical-hydrometallurgical process to achieve a recovery rate of over 96%. This process enables the extraction of key materials like lithium, nickel, and cobalt, essential for manufacturing new batteries for future all-electric Mercedes-Benz models.

Overall, Mercedes-AMG’s focus on cold weather testing, innovative electric architectures, and sustainable practices underscores its commitment to technological advancement and environmental responsibility in the automotive industry.
