MG Expects Minimal Changes to ZEV Mandate
MG doesn’t expect major changes to be made to the zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate, as it could potentially lead to other financial policies being overturned, such as farmers’ inheritance tax, according to the company’s commercial director, Guy Pigounakis.
Pigounakis stated that the ZEV mandate has significantly influenced the way cars are designed, engineered, priced, and distributed, and he believes that it will continue to do so in its current form. The government recently confirmed a fast-track review of the ZEV mandate, which Pigounakis believes will have limited scope to avoid opening up a “can of worms” for the government.
He emphasized that the ZEV mandate has already brought about fundamental changes in the automotive industry and that any major alterations to it could have far-reaching implications on various sectors.
