MG Unveils CyberX: A New Electric SUV
MG has given a sneak peek of its upcoming CyberX, an electric SUV that will be the latest addition to the brand’s Cyber line-up. Following the success of the Cyberster roadster introduced last year, the CyberX promises a more rugged and boxy design, targeting lifestyle-oriented buyers.
Early images reveal illuminated badges and full-width LED light bars at the front and rear, hinting at a modern and cutting-edge aesthetic. The CyberX is set to compete with rivals like the new Smart #5 and will be officially unveiled at the Shanghai motor show.
The Cyber sub-brand from MG is aimed at appealing to a younger demographic, primarily in China. However, the brand has expressed its intention to expand globally, with the Cyberster already available in the UK market.
MG has ambitious plans for its Cyber line-up, with the CyberX being just one of eight new models set to be launched over the next two years. These models will span across sports cars, saloons, and SUVs, showcasing the brand’s commitment to electric mobility.
Underneath its sleek exterior, the CyberX will be built on SAIC’s latest E3 electric platform, marking a significant technological advancement for MG. This platform is described as SAIC’s “first fully electric, system-level architecture,” offering flexibility for various drivetrain configurations and vehicle sizes.
The new CTB (cell-to-body) construction of the platform integrates the battery structure into the car’s body, enhancing rigidity and efficiency while reducing overall weight. This innovative approach sets the stage for a new era of electric vehicles from MG.
