The Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has exciting plans in store for North America next year. They recently announced their intention to launch a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) model, which will be based on the next generation Nissan Leaf. This new model is part of Mitsubishi’s strategic product lineup for North America through 2030.

The upcoming Leaf-based model is set to hit the US market in the second half of 2026. Mitsubishi is also looking into expanding its collaboration with Alliance partners, such as Nissan and Renault, to enhance its lineup of electrified vehicles in key regional markets.

In addition to the Nissan Leaf-based model, Mitsubishi has signed a preliminary agreement with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Company, the automotive subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry Company Ltd, to develop a new BEV model. This model will be based on Foxtron’s MIH open platform and will be sold by Mitsubishi locally and exported to markets in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand, starting in the second half of 2026.

Mitsubishi’s focus on expanding its electric vehicle offerings demonstrates their commitment to sustainable and innovative transportation solutions. By leveraging partnerships and cutting-edge technology, Mitsubishi is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market in the coming years.
