New BYD electric car platform brings 1000kW charging, 1084bhp

BYD has recently unveiled its latest innovation, the Super e-Platform, a cutting-edge electric car architecture that revolves around the newest version of its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery. This revolutionary battery technology is capable of charging at an impressive rate of up to 1000kW, setting a new standard in the electric vehicle industry.

The Super e-Platform made its debut in the updated Han L saloon and Tang L SUV, both scheduled for release in China later this year. These vehicles are equipped with a new generation of high-performance electric motors, with the dual-motor configuration capable of delivering a staggering 1084bhp.

One of the most remarkable features of the Super e-Platform is its ‘flash-charge’ battery, which BYD claims can achieve a full charge in just six minutes due to its 10C charging multiplier. The system boasts a charging voltage of up to 1000V and a maximum current of 1000A, enabling it to sustain 1MW charging power – a significant leap ahead of current fast-charging EVs on the market.

During tests, the new battery consistently maintained high levels of charging power, even reaching up to 600kW at a 90 percent state of charge. To support this capability, BYD has developed a state-of-the-art 1000kW supercharger, allowing the Han L and Tang L models to add up to 249 miles of range in just five minutes under optimal conditions, surpassing Tesla’s latest V4 Supercharger.

To accommodate this groundbreaking battery technology, BYD plans to establish over 4000 supercharging stations across China. In addition to charging advancements, the Super e-Platform also introduces a new in-house-developed electric motor, operating at an impressive 30,511rpm – the highest of any mass-produced electric motor to date.

The motor, with a peak output of 778bhp and a power density of 22bhp/kg, works in conjunction with a smaller front electric motor generating 308bhp. This setup provides four-wheel-drive Han L and Tang L models with a combined 1084bhp, resulting in impressive acceleration figures and top speeds. Rear-wheel-drive single-motor variants offer a still-impressive 671bhp.

Overall, BYD’s Super e-Platform represents a significant leap forward in electric vehicle technology, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. With its advanced battery technology, high-performance electric motors, and rapid charging capabilities, BYD is setting a new standard for electric vehicles in the automotive industry.
