BYD has recently unveiled the Sealion 7, a new electric vehicle that is set to rival the Tesla Model Y. This model marks the brand’s first foray into the European market and is built on the new e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture, which is also used in their existing Atto 3 crossover, Dolphin hatchback, and Seal saloon.
One of the key features of the Sealion 7 is its cell-to-body construction, where the battery cells are directly mounted to the chassis. This model comes equipped with a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery and offers a range of motor configurations to choose from.
The entry-level Sealion 7 Comfort variant is powered by a single 308bhp motor on the rear axle, paired with an 82.5kWh battery that provides a range of 300 miles. Weighing in at 2225kg, this model can accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds.
Stepping up to the Design trim, you’ll find an additional 215bhp motor on the front axle, giving the car four-wheel drive capabilities with a total output of 523bhp and 509lb ft of torque. Although this increases the weight to 2340kg and reduces the range to 283 miles, it also improves acceleration to 4.5 seconds for the 0-62mph sprint.
For those looking for the ultimate performance, the Excellence variant features the same powertrain as the Design but comes with a larger 91.3kWh battery, extending the range to 312 miles. Despite weighing 2435kg due to the larger battery and added interior features, it can still achieve a 0-62mph time of 4.5 seconds.
All models can be charged at up to 150kW on a DC connection, with the Excellence variant capable of charging at a peak rate of 230kW, significantly reducing charging times. Additionally, a heat pump is fitted as standard in all versions, helping to improve the car’s range in cold weather conditions.
Inside, the Sealion 7 boasts a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that can rotate between portrait and landscape orientations and features a new voice control system for added convenience.
