Mercedes-Benz Unveils Special Edition G-Class with Nostalgic Styling Cues
Mercedes-Benz has introduced a special version of the iconic G-Class SUV that pays homage to the original model from 1979. The new G-Class ‘Stronger than the 1980s’ features a range of historic styling elements that hark back to the classic design.
One of the standout features of this special edition is the amber-tinted bonnet indicators, a throwback to the original car’s design. The five-spoke alloy wheels give the G-Class a classic look that echoes the styling of the past.
Available in two striking two-tone liveries, the G-Class ‘Stronger than the 1980s’ comes in Agave Green or Colorado Beige with Night Black accents on the front fascia, skirting, and grille, reminiscent of the original color scheme.
The ‘Schöckl Proved’ emblem on the B-pillar showcases the original G-Class, while the Mercedes-Benz wordmark on the rear uses the same font as the 1980s model. The exterior features roof racks, mud flaps, rear ladders, and headlight meshes borrowed from the Professional catalogue of optional extras.
Inside, the seats are upholstered in Dove Grey chequered cloth, with the ‘Stronger than the 1980s’ script engraved on the passenger grab handle. Puddle lights in the exterior mirrors project the message “stronger than time” onto the ground when the front doors are opened.
Under the hood, the special edition G-Class is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel straight-six engine producing 382bhp. This engine allows for a 0-62mph acceleration time of 5.8 seconds and a fuel economy of 31.4mpg.
Mercedes plans to produce a total of 460 units of the ‘80s-inspired G-Class, with each vehicle featuring a unique plaque indicating its place in the series on the centre console. The starting price for this special edition model is £152,815.
