Peugeot has recently unveiled its latest creation, the 208 GTi electric hot hatch. This model brings back the iconic GTi badge, known for its association with the legendary 205 in the 1980s and the more recent 308 GTi, which was discontinued in 2021.
Drawing inspiration from the design elements of the classic 205, the E-208 GTi features alloy wheels reminiscent of the 205’s ‘Speedline’ wheels and a striking bright red paint color. The exterior is further enhanced with a front spoiler and rear diffuser, giving it a sporty and aggressive look.
Inside, the E-208 GTi boasts extensive red detailing, with leather and Alcantara seats and steering wheel, adding a touch of luxury to the sporty interior. Performance-wise, the model is equipped with a powerful 280hp electric motor, allowing it to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.7 seconds. The car is powered by a 54kWh battery, providing a range of up to 217 miles on a single charge. Additionally, a 20-80% battery charge can be achieved in less than 30 minutes with a 100kW DC rapid charger.
To enhance the driving experience, Peugeot has made chassis tweaks to deliver a more dynamic drive than the regular E-208. These include a 20mm lower ride height and widened tracks at the front and rear. The E-208 GTi also comes with a limited-slip differential, rear anti-roll bar, and 355mm front disc brakes with four-piston calipers for optimal cooling.
The car’s stability control system features a ‘Sport’ mode that suspends assistance systems for track driving, while the steering system is calibrated for dynamic driving. The E-208 GTi also comes equipped with TomTom sat-nav, wireless Apple Carplay, and Android Auto connectivity.
Although prices and an on-sale date have yet to be announced, the Peugeot E-208 GTi is already generating excitement among automotive enthusiasts. With its blend of performance, style, and technology, this electric hot hatch is set to make a strong impression in the market.
