Nio Inc’s (NYSE: NIO) ET5 Touring wagon continued to outpace the ES6 SUV (sport utility vehicle) in last month’s deliveries, according to the latest data.
The ET5 Touring delivered 4,315 units in August, maintaining its position as Nio’s top-selling model by monthly volume despite a 9.25 percent year-on-year decline and a 2.33 percent decrease from July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
The ES6 delivered 2,877 units in August, ranking as Nio’s second-highest delivering model for the month. This represents a 62.61 percent year-on-year decline and a 14.35 percent decrease compared to July.
This marks the third consecutive month the ET5 Touring has surpassed the ES6 in monthly deliveries, while Nio’s historically best-selling model has now recorded its fourth straight month of year-on-year decline.
Since deliveries began in June 2019, the ES6 had been Nio’s top-selling model in most months over the past years, except for January 2021 when it was surpassed by the newly launched EC6 coupe SUV.
The standard ET5 sedan delivered 1,301 units in August, ranking as the third-highest delivering Nio model for the month. This represents a 51.90 percent year-on-year decrease and a 12.09 percent month-on-month decline.
The EC6 coupe SUV delivered 1,147 units in August, down 54.10 percent year-on-year and down 19.51 percent month-on-month.
The ET7 sedan delivered 391 units in August, down 50.69 percent year-on-year and down 30.67 percent month-on-month.
The EC7 coupe SUV delivered 161 units in August, down 36.36 percent year-on-year and down 36.61 percent month-on-month.
Nio’s flagship executive sedan ET9 delivered 92 units in August, an 8.24 percent increase from July’s 85 units. The ET9, priced at RMB 788,000 ($110,590) including battery, represents Nio’s most expensive model and primarily serves to elevate the company’s brand image.
The ES8 SUV delivered 77 units in August, its lowest since April 2020, down 91.02 percent year-on-year and 92.94 percent month-on-month. The decline stems from the upcoming launch of the third-generation ES8 at Nio Day 2025 on September 20. Pre-sales for the updated ES8 commenced on August 21.
The Nio brand delivered 10,525 vehicles in August, down 47.83 percent year-on-year and down 16.96 percent month-on-month, according to data released on September 1.
While Nio brand deliveries declined, its sub-brands Onvo and Firefly delivered more vehicles. The Onvo sub-brand delivered 16,434 vehicles in August, a 175.00 percent increase from July. Firefly delivered 4,346 vehicles in August, an 83.69 percent increase from July.
The Onvo L60 delivered 5,859 vehicles in August, a 1.96 percent decrease from July. Onvo’s second model, the L90 SUV, delivered 10,575 units in August. The vehicle officially launched on July 31 and began deliveries on August 1. Firefly currently delivers only the Firefly EV model.
