Nio Celebrates Over 60 Million Battery Swaps

December 13th marked a significant milestone for Nio as the company announced that its battery swap services have now exceeded 60 million swaps. With a network of 2,785 swap stations across China, including 909 stations along highways, Nio has solidified its position as a leader in electric vehicle technology. This achievement comes just months after hitting the 2,500 swap station mark globally in July, with a presence in Europe as well.

The numbers speak for themselves, with an average of 80,000 swaps per day since the beginning of December. This equates to a battery swap happening at a Nio station every 1.08 seconds, showcasing the efficiency and popularity of this service.

Nio’s exponential growth is evident in the fact that it took only 5 months to add an additional 10 million swaps after reaching the 50 million mark in August. Alongside the swap stations, Nio also operates 4,618 charging stations and 24,520 charging piles worldwide, further enhancing its infrastructure.

Since its first battery swap in Shenzhen in 2018, Nio has come a long way in revolutionizing the electric vehicle industry. The company’s founder, chairman, and CEO, Li Bin, has set ambitious targets for expanding battery swap coverage to 1,200 county-level districts by June 2025 and 2,300 districts by December 2025.

The success of Nio’s battery swap services can be attributed to the popularity of its Onvo brand, particularly the Onvo L60 SUV. With 5,082 units delivered in November and a total of 20,575 cars delivered that month, Nio is making a significant impact in the market. The company is rapidly expanding its network of Onvo-compatible swap stations, with plans to reach 2,500 by the end of the year.

Aside from China, Nio has also ventured into European markets such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. The company’s expansion efforts extend to the United Arab Emirates, with the recent opening of a flagship center in Abu Dhabi. Supported by CYVN Holdings, an investment fund owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi, Nio aims to establish its presence in the region with a swap station expected by 2025.
