Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li recently held an internal meeting with the smart driving team to address the increasing competition in the smart driving space. The meeting, which took place in Beijing, aimed to boost team morale and discuss the future direction of the smart driving projects.
During the meeting, Li assured the team that there would be no large-scale layoffs, but some projects within the smart driving team would be canceled. This news comes as competition in the smart driving sector heats up, with companies like BYD launching their vehicle intelligence strategy, which includes free high-level ADAS features for 21 models.
The smart driving team at Nio currently consists of over 1,000 employees, with the majority based in Beijing and Shanghai. Li’s visit to Beijing included a tour of the latest parking-assist features before the meeting began. He emphasized that Nio would continue to focus on the premium all-electric vehicle market and would not be launching single-motor models.
During the meeting, Li distributed digital envelopes with small cash rewards, known as Hongbaos, to the team as a gesture of appreciation. The total amount distributed was estimated to be more than RMB 10,000 ($1,380). The meeting also discussed the company’s commitment to smart driving technology and its plans to remain competitive in the evolving industry landscape.
As the year progresses, the focus of competition in China’s auto industry is expected to center around smart driving technology. With the launch of BYD’s vehicle intelligence strategy, the competition is set to intensify, making it crucial for companies like Nio to stay ahead of the curve.
Overall, the internal meeting with the smart driving team highlighted Nio’s dedication to innovation and competitiveness in the smart driving space. By addressing the challenges and opportunities in the sector, Nio aims to position itself as a leader in the development of smart driving technology.
