NIO Completes Battery Swapping Network Connecting Major Cities in China

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- NIO has officially announced the completion of its battery swapping network that spans China’s 9 north-south and 9 east-west main highways, linking all major cities across the country. This network covers 12 key city clusters, including regions such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Chengdu-Chongqing region. Users can now complete a battery swap in just three minutes at service areas along these routes.

NIO’s latest battery swapping station is now operational at the Hongze Lake service area along the G25 Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway, marking the completion of the extensive battery swapping network. The G25 Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway covers a distance of 2,603 kilometers from Tianjin to Shenzhen, with 32 NIO battery swapping stations along the way. It passes through eight cities and provinces, connecting North, East, and South China.

Initially unveiled in September 2021, NIO’s plan for the battery swapping network included 5 north-south and 3 east-west main highways, and 4 major city clusters. At the recent NIO Power Day 2022 event, the company expanded the network to cover 9 north-south and 9 east-west main highways, as well as 19 major city clusters, focusing on facilitating long-distance travel for electric vehicle users.

As of December 18, 2022, NIO has established a total of 2,808 battery swapping stations across China, including 913 highway battery swapping stations, connecting over 700 cities nationwide. The network ensures that battery swapping stations are available every 200 kilometers on average along highways, with shorter distances of just 50 to 100 kilometers along the 9 north-south and 9 east-west highways.
