Nio, a renowned Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, has recently unveiled its latest offering, the ET9, at the Nio Day 2024 event in Guangzhou, Guangdong province. This premium executive sedan is set to compete with established German luxury car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi.

With a starting price of RMB 788,000 ($108,000), including the battery, the ET9 is priced slightly lower than its pre-sales price of RMB 800,000 when it was first introduced a year ago. For those opting for the BaaS (battery as a service) model, the starting price is even more attractive at RMB 660,000, with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 1,128.

In addition to the standard version, Nio is also offering a limited edition of the ET9 priced at RMB 818,000, including the battery, with only 999 units available. Under the BaaS model, the limited edition starts at RMB 690,000 with the same monthly battery fee of RMB 1,128. Deliveries of the ET9 are scheduled to commence in March 2025, with priority given to the limited-edition model.

The ET9 boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 5,325 mm in length, 2,017 mm in width, and 1,621 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm. It is equipped with Nio’s proprietary 5 nm process-based Shenji NX9031 autonomous driving chip, offering advanced technological capabilities.

One of the standout features of the ET9 is the SkyRide intelligent chassis system, described as the world’s first integrated hydraulic fully active suspension. This innovative suspension system allows for precise adjustment of stiffness, damping, and height, enhancing ride comfort and safety.

The sedan also incorporates steer-by-wire (SBW) technology, enabling the steering wheel and wheels to operate independently, a key component of intelligent driving. Nio’s SBW technology was recently approved for mass production by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, making the ET9 the first mass-produced model in China to feature this technology.

Built on a 925 V ultra-high voltage platform, the ET9 offers enhanced energy performance and faster charging speeds. It is equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC range of up to 650 kilometers. The dual electric motors deliver a total power output of 520 kW and a peak torque of 700 Nm, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

With a spacious frunk offering 105 L of storage space, the ET9 is a practical and luxurious choice for discerning customers. Nio’s commitment to innovation and cutting-edge technology is evident in every aspect of the ET9, making it a formidable competitor in the premium executive sedan market.
