Nio Firefly partners with HERE Technologies for overseas map data

Nio’s sub-brand, Firefly, has recently announced a strategic partnership with HERE Technologies, a renowned international location data provider. This collaboration is set to enhance the smart driving services offered by Firefly’s electric vehicles (EVs) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

According to a press release issued by HERE Technologies, the partnership aims to improve the safety, efficiency, and overall driving experience of Firefly’s smart EVs. Firefly will leverage HERE’s comprehensive global maps, which include connected navigation and ADAS features. Additionally, Firefly will utilize HERE’s speed limit data to support the EU-wide Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) requirements.

In conjunction with HERE’s partnership with Telenav Inc, Firefly will integrate a range of location services to enhance the digital cockpit and navigation experience specifically tailored for EVs. This integration will include real-time traffic insights to further enhance the driving experience for Firefly users.

Firefly, a sub-brand of Nio targeting the premium compact EV market, recently launched its first model in China. The Firefly EV, which starts at RMB 119,800 ($16,700), competes directly with the BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz Smart. While Firefly initially planned to launch its first model in Europe, the decision was made to debut in China due to the complexity of EU tariffs.

The partnership with HERE Technologies is a significant step towards Firefly’s upcoming launch in Europe. Chris Chen, Vice President of Global Business Development at Nio, emphasized the importance of collaborating with a partner who understands the complexities of global mobility. Chen expressed confidence that with HERE’s expertise, Firefly drivers will experience seamless and intelligent mobility solutions regardless of their location.

In response to media inquiries, Nio’s Co-Founder and President, Qin Lihong, revealed that Firefly is expected to enter about 20 overseas markets by the end of the year. The right-hand drive version of Firefly is set to be available by October, with initial launches planned for the UK and Southeast Asia.

With a strong focus on expanding its presence in international markets, Firefly’s partnership with HERE Technologies underscores its commitment to delivering innovative and advanced driving experiences for users worldwide. Stay tuned for more updates on Firefly’s journey towards global expansion.
