Nio offers up to $140,000 in rewards for tips on malicious online attacks

Nio, the renowned electric vehicle (EV) maker, has taken a bold step towards protecting its brand reputation by offering rewards to internet users who provide tips on malicious online attacks against the company. The initiative, which offers rewards ranging from RMB 10,000 to RMB 1 million ($140,000), aims to combat cyber violence and misinformation directed at Nio.

The move comes as Nio’s legal department issued a statement calling for tips and evidence of malicious attacks by online trolls and PR campaigns aimed at defaming the brand. The statement, posted on social media platform Weibo, encourages individuals to report any online accounts spreading false information about Nio and its brands, including Nio, Onvo, and Firefly. Valid tips or evidence can be submitted to the email address nioreport@nio.com for verification.

In a live video on the short video platform Douyin, Nio’s founder and CEO, William Li, emphasized the importance of combating malicious rumors and cyber attacks. Li acknowledged the challenges of gathering evidence against online attacks and expressed hope that internet users would assist in identifying perpetrators.

Nio’s initiative follows in the footsteps of other companies like BYD, who have also offered rewards for tips on malicious attacks. BYD, a prominent Chinese automaker, announced a reward program in late 2021, with reward caps ranging from RMB 50,000 to RMB 1 million. In June 2022, BYD increased the reward cap to RMB 5 million for a period of one year.

The rise of self-media and online influencers has made it easier for individuals to spread misinformation and defame brands online. As a result, companies like Nio and BYD are taking proactive measures to protect their brand reputation and combat cyber attacks.

The initiative by Nio underscores the company’s commitment to defending its rights and interests against malicious attacks. By incentivizing internet users to provide tips on online attacks, Nio aims to create a safer and more secure online environment for its brand and customers.

The rewards offered by Nio serve as a testament to the company’s dedication to maintaining its reputation and standing up against cyber violence and misinformation. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like these play a crucial role in safeguarding the integrity of brands and ensuring a positive online experience for all stakeholders.
