Nio Onvo clears hurdle holding back car owners from changing BaaS plan

Onvo, a sub-brand of Nio (NYSE: NIO), is making strides to enhance the car ownership experience for L60 owners by eliminating an additional cost associated with changing their BaaS (battery as a service) plan. This move comes as part of Onvo’s efforts to optimize its operations following a recent change in management.

Previously, L60 owners who purchased their cars under the BaaS battery rental program were required to pay a one-time fee of RMB 3,000 ($416) when changing their monthly plan. However, Onvo has now reduced this fee to just RMB 1 yuan, virtually exempting owners from any additional costs when making changes to their BaaS plan.

The decision to waive the additional fee has been well-received by many users who had previously raised concerns about the cost associated with changing their battery rental plan. While Onvo has not officially announced this change, it is a significant improvement that could potentially enhance customer satisfaction.

The L60, Onvo’s first model launched on September 19, 2024, is a mid-size SUV that offers the convenience of battery swap technology. This feature allows drivers to quickly access a fully charged battery at battery swap stations, in addition to regular charging options.

The L60 is available with 60-kWh standard-range and 85-kWh long-range battery pack options, with a starting price of RMB 206,900 including the battery pack. Under the BaaS purchase program, the L60 starts at RMB 149,900, with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 599 or RMB 899 depending on the battery pack.

Onvo also introduced the option for standard-range L60 owners to upgrade to an 85-kWh battery pack starting March 1. The upgrade costs RMB 45 per day, RMB 800 per month, and RMB 8,800 per year, providing owners with flexibility and choice in their battery options.

Following a change in leadership on April 1, with Shen Fei taking over as president, Onvo has made several adjustments to streamline operations and address customer concerns. One of these changes includes the elimination of the RMB 3,000 extra fee for permanent changes to BaaS plans, reflecting Onvo’s commitment to enhancing the overall ownership experience for its customers.

While Onvo’s delivery performance has faced challenges in recent months, with 4,400 vehicles delivered in April, the brand continues to make strides in optimizing its services and addressing user feedback. With Nio Inc delivering 23,900 vehicles in April, Onvo remains a key player in the electric vehicle market, with a cumulative delivery total of 39,942 vehicles by the end of April.

Overall, Onvo’s efforts to improve the car ownership experience for L60 owners demonstrate its commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation in the EV industry.
