Onvo, a subsidiary of Nio (NYSE: NIO), has unveiled the first official image of its upcoming model, the Onvo L90, as Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) introduced its first all-electric SUV, the Li i8. This exciting development sets the stage for a fierce competition between the two electric vehicle manufacturers.

The image shared by Onvo on Weibo showcases the side profile of the L90, albeit camouflaged. Described as a flagship SUV designed for large families, the Onvo L90 boasts features such as rechargeable and swappable capabilities, providing a superior experience compared to traditional refueling methods. Onvo’s President, Alan Ai, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming model, hinting at a direct rivalry with Li Auto’s Li i8.

In a Weibo post, Ai congratulated Li Auto on the announcement of the Li i8 and hinted at a power-packed showdown between the two electric SUVs. The L90, as revealed by Ai in a video broadcast with Charles Zhang, is positioned as Onvo’s flagship product, offering a spacious three-row seating layout tailored for large families. The company plans to debut the L90 in the second quarter of the year, with an official launch scheduled for the third quarter.

Onvo’s debut model, the L60, was launched on September 19, 2024, with deliveries commencing on September 28. The company’s foray into the electric vehicle market has been well-received, paving the way for the highly anticipated release of the L90. Meanwhile, Li Auto’s Li i8 marks the brand’s entry into the all-electric SUV segment, adding to its existing lineup of extended-range electric vehicles.

The Li i8 is poised to intensify competition in China’s electric vehicle sector, with potential rivals such as Onvo’s upcoming large SUVs. As both brands gear up for a head-to-head battle for market supremacy, consumers can look forward to a wave of innovative electric vehicles that cater to diverse preferences and lifestyles.
