Nio ET9 Becomes First Mass-Produced Vehicle in China with Steer-By-Wire Technology

Nio, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, has achieved a significant milestone with its flagship sedan, the Nio ET9. The vehicle’s steer-by-wire (SBW) technology has received mass production clearance from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), making it the first mass-produced model in China to feature this cutting-edge technology.

The approval of the SBW technology paves the way for the on-schedule delivery of the Nio ET9. This approval marks a major achievement for Nio, positioning the company as a leader in technological innovation within the Chinese automotive industry.

The Nio ET9 is set to revolutionize the driving experience with its SBW technology, which allows for complete decoupling of the steering wheel and the wheels. This advanced technology is a key component of the SBW chassis and is essential for enabling high-level autonomous driving capabilities.

In addition to SBW technology, the Nio ET9 boasts a range of other advanced features and technologies that set it apart from traditional vehicles. The vehicle was unveiled at Nio Day 2023 and has since garnered significant attention for its impressive specifications and design.

One of the key selling points of the Nio ET9 is its SBW technology, which is the result of Nio’s substantial research and development efforts over the years. The vehicle’s SBW technology is a testament to Nio’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation and delivering cutting-edge solutions to its customers.

The ET9 is powered by dual electric motors, supplied by Nio’s electric motor division XPT in Xinqiao, Hefei. The front motor delivers a peak power of 180 kW, while the rear motor provides a peak power of 340 kW. The model also supports battery swap technology, with the battery supplier listed as CATL.

Nio’s partnership with German tech giant ZF Group in Munich, Germany, has further enhanced the development of SBW technology. This collaboration underscores Nio’s commitment to working with industry leaders to drive innovation and set new standards for the future of automotive technology.

The approval of the SBW technology for the Nio ET9 is a significant milestone for the Chinese automotive industry. As China continues to position itself as a global leader in electric vehicle technology, Nio’s achievements with the ET9 highlight the country’s growing influence and expertise in the automotive sector.

With the mass production clearance for its SBW technology, Nio is setting a new standard for automotive innovation in China. The Nio ET9’s advanced features and cutting-edge technologies position it as a standout model in the electric vehicle market, offering customers a glimpse into the future of automotive design and performance.
