Nio, a leading electric vehicle (EV) maker, has recently announced a new partnership with Future Science City Group in Beijing to jointly build 100 battery swap stations. This collaboration marks the second time Nio has joined hands with a state-owned enterprise to establish a network of battery swap stations.
The strategic cooperation agreement was signed between Nio and Future Science City Group, a company predominantly owned by the Changping District State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission in Beijing. The partnership aims to focus on the construction of a green energy battery swap network, with plans to initially set up 100 battery swap stations in the Changping district of Beijing.
Nio’s co-founder and president, Li Hong Qin, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the company’s commitment to expanding its battery swap infrastructure. This initiative follows a recent partnership with CATL to build the world’s largest battery swap network, demonstrating Nio’s dedication to enhancing its service offerings.
Future Science City Group, backed by government funding of approximately RMB 50 billion between 2019 and 2023, plays a crucial role in urban infrastructure development for the Changping district government. The company’s involvement in this project underscores its significance in supporting sustainable energy solutions.
In a separate endeavor, Nio Power, the energy arm of Nio, partnered with Wuhan Shouyi Scientific Innovation Investment Group in Hubei to establish 100 battery swap and charging stations. This initiative aligns with Nio’s broader Power Up Partners program, aimed at accelerating the deployment of charging and battery swap facilities through strategic collaborations.
Through the Power Up Partners program, Nio aims to optimize capital expenditure by leveraging partnerships to drive infrastructure expansion. By engaging partners to construct and operate battery swap stations, Nio can focus on scaling its network while generating revenue for its collaborators.
As of now, Nio boasts a network of 3,196 battery swap stations and 25,780 chargers across China. The company’s ambitious plans include expanding its battery swap network to cover all counties in 27 provincial-level administrative regions by 2025, along with achieving comprehensive charging coverage nationwide.
Looking ahead, Nio is gearing up for the launch of a highly anticipated model in the fourth quarter, further solidifying its position in the EV market. The company’s strategic partnerships and infrastructure initiatives underscore its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
