Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) is gearing up to unveil its latest iteration of the ES8 SUV, marking the transition of its first mass-produced model to the third generation. The highly anticipated technology showcase event for the new ES8 is scheduled for August 21, where the all-new SUV will be introduced to the public.

The event, set to kick off at 7:30 pm Beijing time in Chengdu, Sichuan province, will highlight the key product and technological advancements of the new ES8. The official launch of the SUV is slated for next month at Nio Day 2025, where it will be available for sale.

In a bold move to showcase the capabilities of the new ES8, Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li, along with his team, are currently embarking on a journey to the foot of Mount Everest in the SUV. The objective is to demonstrate the convenience and practicality of using the ES8, supported by Nio’s innovative battery swap network. As of today, the team has covered a distance of 1,723 kilometers on their expedition.

The ES8 holds a special place in Nio’s lineup as its first mass-produced model. The initial iteration, based on the NT 1.0 platform, was launched in 2017, while the second generation debuted in 2022 on the NT 2.0 platform. The upcoming third-generation ES8 promises to be larger than its predecessor, offering enhanced dimensions for a more spacious and comfortable driving experience.

Equipped with a 102-kWh battery pack, the new ES8 will boast a range of 635 kilometers on a single charge, thanks to advancements in battery technology. Notably, this battery pack is the same one utilized in Nio’s executive flagship sedan, the ET9, highlighting the company’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge EV solutions across its product range.

With the upcoming launch of the new ES8, Nio has decided to reschedule its annual flagship event, Nio Day, to the fall season. This strategic move is aimed at aligning the event with the launch of the ES8 and maximizing the impact of the unveiling on consumers and enthusiasts.

Despite a slight dip in sales in the first seven months of the year, the ES8 remains a popular choice among consumers, with July witnessing a record-high delivery of 1,090 units. The new ES8 is expected to further enhance its appeal with improved range and advanced features, all while maintaining a competitive starting price.

The anticipation surrounding the new ES8 is palpable, as Nio continues to push boundaries and redefine the electric vehicle landscape with its innovative offerings. Stay tuned for more updates on the ES8 as Nio prepares to set new standards in the EV industry.
