The highly anticipated Nio ET9 is set to make its debut at the upcoming Nio Day event in Guangzhou on December 21. Ahead of this launch, leaked images of the interior have surfaced, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from Nio’s new flagship sedan.
The Nio ET9 marks a significant departure from the brand’s current lineup, especially in terms of design. While Nio refers to it as a sedan, it bears a closer resemblance to the EC6 and EC7 SUV coupes rather than the existing ET5 and ET7 sedans. One of the standout features of the ET9 is the groundbreaking Skyride active suspension, which promises to revolutionize the driving experience.
Upon closer inspection of the interior spy shots, it becomes apparent that the ET9 offers a completely different interior layout compared to its predecessors. The most striking change is the horizontally mounted center screen, a departure from the vertically mounted screens seen in previous Nio models. The instrument display has also been revamped, with a ring display spanning the width of the front cabin, providing both driver and passenger with essential information.
The steering wheel of the ET9 features a unique rectangular shape with a two-spoke design. The traditional drive selector on the center console has been replaced by a stalk mounted on the steering column. The interior of the ET9 is configured as a four-seater, with the center console extending into the rear cabin. A centrally-mounted rear screen is visible on the console, possibly accompanied by a storage compartment below.
Measuring 5324/2016/1620mm with a wheelbase of 3250mm, the Nio ET9 is the largest vehicle in Nio’s lineup to date. Despite being labeled as a sedan, its dimensions and height suggest a closer resemblance to an SUV coupe. With a weight of 2700 kg, the ET9 promises a robust and stable driving experience.
Under the hood, the Nio ET9 is equipped with the company’s innovative 900V Thunder electric drive system. The rear axle features a 925V W-Pin synchronous permanent magnet electric motor with a peak power output of 340 kW, while the front axle boasts an asynchronous induction motor with a peak power of 180 kW. This powerful setup ensures an exhilarating driving performance.
In a departure from previous models, the ET9 comes with a new swappable battery system that operates on a global 900V architecture. The 120 kWh battery can be charged at peak power of up to 600 kW, allowing for rapid charging and a claimed range of 255 km in just 5 minutes. The energy density of the battery is an impressive 292 Wh/kg, thanks to a collaboration between Nio and CATL in developing the 46105 cylindrical cells.
Pre-sales for the Nio ET9 have started at a price of 800,000 yuan (110,000 USD), with deliveries expected to commence in early 2025. Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking new model from Nio.
