The upcoming Nissan N7 electric sedan, developed in collaboration between Nissan and China-owned Dongfeng, is set to hit the Chinese market in May 2025. This launch marks Nissan’s attempt to make a comeback in China following five years of declining sales. With a length of 5 meters and boasting 268 horsepower, the N7 aims to capture the attention of Chinese consumers looking for electric vehicles.
Nissan has been facing challenges in the Chinese market, experiencing a drop in sales for five consecutive years. In 2024, the company saw a 49% decrease in sales compared to 2019, largely due to the increasing demand for battery electric cars and plug-in hybrids. With only one EV model, the aging Ariya SUV, in its lineup, Nissan needed a strategic plan to revitalize its presence in China. Collaborating with Dongfeng in car development was the first step towards this goal, resulting in the creation of the Nissan N7 electric sedan.
The Nissan N7 was unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show with the aim of setting a new standard for electric cars among Chinese families. The production-ready version of the sedan was submitted for a sales license in China in January 2025, gearing up for its official launch in the market in May. The N7 shares similarities with the Dongfeng eπ 007 sedan in terms of specifications and design, indicating a strategic alignment between Nissan and Dongfeng in the development process.
With dimensions of 4930/1895/1487 mm and a wheelbase of 2915 mm, the Nissan N7 is a spacious sedan offering two wheel options: R17 and R19. Powered by a Dongfeng-made electric motor, the N7 comes in two variants – one generating 160 kW (215 hp) and the other offering 200 kW (268 hp). The sedan is equipped with an LFP battery manufactured by Dongfeng-Sunwoda JV, ensuring efficient performance and range for the vehicle.
In terms of design, the Nissan N7 features the brand’s V-Motion design language, with a sleek exterior and a drag coefficient of 0.208 Cd. The front of the car is adorned with interactive LED panels, while the rear boasts a single interactive taillight strip. Inside, the cabin is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip, and the car features an intelligent driving system developed by Dongfeng Nissan and Momenta.
Expected to be priced between 160,000 – 180,000 yuan (21,950 – 24,700 USD), the Nissan N7 will be exclusively available in China. Following its launch, Nissan plans to introduce four more new energy vehicles within the next 12 months, signaling the company’s commitment to regaining its position in the competitive Chinese market.
