The Nissan X-Trail Nismo: A Sporty Upgrade for the Family SUV
The Nissan X-Trail Nismo has made its debut in Japan, offering a more aggressive look and enhanced chassis for the brand’s popular family SUV.
One of the standout features of the Nismo version is the new swing-valve dampers from suspension specialist KYB. These dampers are designed to provide improved bump absorption at lower speeds, striking a balance between body control and ride comfort.
Equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires, the X-Trail Nismo boasts a wider track than its standard counterparts. The electric power steering system has also been fine-tuned to complement the upgraded chassis setup.
Under the hood, the Nismo variant utilizes the same four-wheel-drive e-Power hybrid powertrain as other X-Trail models. This system combines a 1.5-liter petrol engine with two electric motors to deliver a total output of 201bhp and 243lb ft of torque.
Nissan has specifically adjusted the four-wheel-drive configuration to prioritize power delivery to the rear wheels, enhancing the SUV’s handling characteristics. This adjustment allows for more precise control of the X-Trail’s trajectory through corners using throttle inputs.
Visually, the X-Trail Nismo stands out with its distinctive body kit featuring signature red accents. The aerodynamic enhancements, including a front splitter and rear diffuser, reduce lift by 29% compared to the base model.
Inside the cabin, buyers have the option to upgrade to Recaro bucket seats with increased bolstering for added support during spirited driving.
While the Nismo version is currently available in Japan starting at ¥5,416,400, equivalent to £27,300, its arrival in the UK market remains unconfirmed. However, considering the introduction of the Ariya Nismo in the UK, there is a strong possibility of the X-Trail Nismo making its way to British shores, likely at a premium price point above the current range-topping Tekna model priced at £46,135.
