Introducing the Omoda 3: The New Compact Crossover from China
Chinese automaker Omoda has recently unveiled its latest creation, the Omoda 3, a compact crossover designed to compete with the likes of the MG4 and Kia EV3. Set to be officially launched in October, the Omoda 3 will be available globally, including in the UK, by late 2025 or early 2026. Customers can choose from an electric drivetrain, plug-in hybrid, or traditional internal combustion engine.
With its bold angular styling and distinctive sharknose grille, the Omoda 3 draws inspiration from high-end SUVs such as the Lotus Eletre and Lamborghini Urus. Despite its premium aesthetic, the starting price is expected to be under £30,000.
Measuring 4420mm in length, the Omoda 3 is slightly longer than the existing Omoda 5 SUV, which is already available in the UK in both combustion engine and electric variants. However, the next generation of the Omoda 5 will see a size increase, according to a product manager at Omoda and Jaecoo.
Underpinning the Omoda 3 is the versatile T1X platform, which is shared with other Omoda models like the 5, 7, and 9 SUVs, as well as Jaecoo’s lineup. This platform allows for flexibility in design and performance, catering to a range of customer preferences.
Embracing a youthful appeal, Omoda has incorporated futuristic elements into the Omoda 3, such as sci-fi inspired digital graphics on the dashboard, a ‘starship’ sound option, and seamless integration with gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch through the central touchscreen display.
For those looking to personalize their vehicle, Omoda offers a ‘racing pack’ modification option and official body wraps to enhance the visual impact of the Omoda 3.
