Chinese Automakers Omoda and Jaecoo Partner with Thatcham Research to Improve Aftersales Service

Chinese newcomers Omoda and Jaecoo have joined forces with Thatcham Research, a leading insurer-backed organization, to address the aftersales issues that have been a concern for insurers and customers in the UK market. This strategic partnership aims to enhance safety, security, and sustainable repair practices for both current and future models.

One of the main challenges faced by Chinese-made cars in the UK market has been the availability of replacement parts, leading to rejected insurance policies and costly repairs. Thatcham Research highlights the importance of good parts availability, efficient repairs, and enhanced security measures in reducing insurance costs and increasing customer satisfaction.

While Chinese car manufacturers are well-versed in vehicle homologation and safety standards, they have historically paid less attention to repairability, as the Chinese insurance system is government-subsidized. This partnership between Omoda, Jaecoo, and Thatcham Research marks a significant step towards addressing these concerns.

Both Omoda and Jaecoo have taken proactive measures to make their vehicles more insurable in the UK market. This includes redesigning structural components for easier repair, simplifying repair processes for sub-assemblies, and providing comprehensive body repair guides. Technical support for dealers has been expanded, with 100 technicians undergoing training to enhance aftersales service.

Moreover, Omoda and Jaecoo have invested in a £3 million parts inventory and have established a partnership with logistics giant DHL to ensure next-day delivery from a dedicated center in Rugby. These efforts demonstrate a commitment to improving aftersales service and customer satisfaction.

Thatcham Research has praised the swift response and flexibility demonstrated by Omoda and Jaecoo in implementing changes to enhance insurability. In addition to structural redesigns, all UK-bound Omoda and Jaecoo cars will come equipped with Thatcham-certified locking wheel devices, protection against relay attacks on keyless entry systems, and double-locking mechanisms for added security.

This collaboration between Chinese automakers and Thatcham Research sets a new standard for aftersales service and insurability in the UK market. By prioritizing safety, security, and repairability, Omoda and Jaecoo are paving the way for a more seamless ownership experience for customers.
