Opel overtaken – Cupra’s conquesting continues

Cupra, the subsidiary of SEAT S.A., seems to be on a winning streak lately. The brand has been selling cars at such a rapid pace that it recently climbed to the sixth position in Europe’s largest national market in March. This impressive feat puts Cupra ahead of well-established brands like Ford and Opel, according to data from Germany’s KBA.

In fact, Cupra’s year-on-year growth is a remarkable 128.5%, showcasing the brand’s increasing popularity among consumers. The recent surge in sales can be attributed to the success of the Formentor and the introduction of a new model, the Terramar. The Terramar, with 2,347 units sold in March, has quickly become a strong contender in the SUV segment, outselling popular models like the VW Polo and Mercedes C-Class.

The UK market has also shown strong support for Cupra, with March deliveries increasing by 55% compared to the previous year. The brand’s market share has grown to 1.7%, securing the 20th position in the market. Cupra’s success in the UK market is evident by surpassing brands like Dacia and BYD in the first quarter of the year.

The Terramar, manufactured on the same production line as the Audi Q3 in Hungary, has been well-received in various European markets. The SUV offers multiple turbocharged four-cylinder engine options, catering to different consumer preferences. While there is no electric option for the Terramar, Cupra offers the Born hatchback and Tavascan coupe-SUV for buyers looking for electric models.

Cupra’s lineup of models spans across different segments, with the brand focusing on vehicles between 4.2 and 4.6 meters in length. The brand’s PHEV powertrains, known as eHybrid, are available in models like the Formentor, León, and Terramar. The Terramar, named after the Autòdrom de Sitges-Terramar near Barcelona, stays true to Cupra’s sporty heritage.

The interior of the Terramar exudes a luxurious feel, with high-quality materials and attention to detail. The vehicle offers excellent performance, with the top variant equipped with a 195 kW (265 PS) engine and a seven-speed DCT transmission. The Terramar’s dynamic capabilities and impressive acceleration make it a joy to drive on challenging roads.

Overall, the new Cupra Terramar is poised to become a top-seller in the brand’s lineup, potentially replacing the Ateca SUV in the future. With its sleek design, powerful performance, and upscale interior, the Terramar embodies the essence of the Cupra brand. The SUV is priced competitively, starting from £37,885 for the base model and going up to £47,745 for the top-spec variant.
