Oshkosh Corporation, a renowned leader in the manufacturing of specialty vehicles and equipment, has recently showcased its cutting-edge technology for everyday heroes at CES 2025. The company’s AeroTech group unveiled a range of electric support vehicles designed for the “Airport of the Future,” including a driverless electric baggage and cargo handler.
Airport ground support vehicles, such as baggage handlers, fueling rigs, and airplane tugs, are ideal candidates for electrification due to their specific use cases. These purpose-built vehicles operate on controlled job sites with predictable routes, requiring high torque at low speeds. Oshkosh recognizes the potential of electric vehicles for the future of airport operations.
John Pfeifer, president and CEO of Oshkosh Corporation, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging technology for positive impacts on communities. By incorporating AI, autonomy, connectivity, and electrification into their innovations, Oshkosh aims to support a safe, productive, quiet, and clean future.
The company’s electric and autonomous gate and ground support equipment, along with other connected technologies, are expected to help airlines optimize operations and reduce travel delays associated with cargo and loading processes.
At CES, Oshkosh showcased its baggage handler alongside AI-powered self-driving vehicles and connected solutions like iOPS and ClearSky Smart Fleet technologies. One standout feature of their electric vehicles is the Autonomous Mobile Charging Robot (AMCR), which brings wireless charging capabilities directly to the equipment, optimizing uptime and supporting the accelerated adoption of electrified products through ClearSky Smart Fleet technology.
Instead of requiring vehicles to return to a designated charging area, the AMCR delivers power to the equipment when it is stationary for a few minutes. This innovative concept eliminates the need for downtime due to charging and promotes the seamless integration of electric vehicles into airport operations.
Visitors at CES had the opportunity to witness Oshkosh’s display of advanced technology, including the AMCR wearing JLG livery, a construction equipment brand owned by Oshkosh. The AMCR can provide power to any vehicle using a conventional J1772/CCS connector, showcasing the company’s commitment to facilitating the transition to electrified solutions.
