China’s battery-electric vehicle (BEV) market experienced a significant rebound in February, outperforming the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) market. According to the latest data from EV Volumes, BEV registrations in China reached 430,661 units, marking an 89.4% increase compared to the previous year. Over the first two months of 2025, a total of 856,859 BEVs were delivered to customers, showing a 40.6% rise.
On the other hand, PHEVs continued their strong performance in February, with 299,247 registrations, a 61.3% increase from the same period last year. In the first two months of the year, PHEVs saw 673,819 deliveries, up by 42.1%.
In February, BEVs accounted for 59% of all EV deliveries in China, while PHEVs made up the remaining 41%. This significant gap of 18 percentage points highlighted the strength of the all-electric market during the month.
The Geely Geome Xingyuan maintained its lead as the best-selling BEV for the second consecutive month, with 28,588 registrations and a market share of 6.6%. The BYD Seagull followed closely in second place, recording 26,958 deliveries and a 6.3% market share. The Xiaomi SU7 secured the third spot with 23,728 registrations and a 5.5% market share.
Other top-performing BEVs included the Wuling Mini, Tesla Model 3, Xpeng M03, Geely Panda Mini, BYD Yuan Plus and Yuan Up, and Wuling Bingo.
Geely dominated the BEV market in the first two months of the year, with the Geely Geome Xingyuan leading the pack. The Wuling Mini and Xiaomi SU7 followed closely behind, with BYD Seagull and Tesla Model Y rounding out the top five.
In the PHEV market, BYD regained its dominance in February, with the BYD Song Plus leading the way. The BYD Qin L and Qin Plus secured the second and third positions, followed by the BYD Song Pro and Li Auto L6.
BYD models dominated the year-to-date PHEV table as well, with the BYD Song Plus, Qin L, Qin Plus, and Song Pro taking the top four spots. The Geely Galaxy Starship 7 broke the BYD streak by securing the fifth position.
Overall, China’s EV market showed promising growth in both BEVs and PHEVs, with strong performances from key players like Geely, BYD, Xiaomi, Tesla, and Li Auto. The competition is fierce, with manufacturers constantly innovating to capture market share and meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles in China.
