Peugeot 407 Coupe: A Closer Look at its Performance
When it comes to enjoying a quiet cruising experience, the Peugeot 407 Coupe offers a range of engine options to suit different preferences. From four- and six-cylinder engines, including 2.2 and 3.0-litre petrols to 2.0 and 2.7-litre diesels, there is something for everyone. However, it was the 2.7 twin-turbo 24-valve diesel engine that truly complemented the 407’s character. With its impressive 1900rpm and 330lb ft of torque, this diesel V6 engine, developed in partnership with Ford, PSA, Land Rover, and Jaguar, was considered one of the best big diesels at the time.
For those seeking a bit more power, the 3.0 petrol V6 with 208bhp was also an option. Initially paired with an automatic transmission that was a bit uncooperative, later models offered a manual transmission. This combination, although rare, added a unique touch to the 407 Coupe lineup. Despite its dynamic merits, including excellent resistance to body roll and impressive roadholding, the manual transmission did little to transform the Peugeot into a sports car.
While the 407 Coupe excelled in cornering and offered great directional stability, it lacked the agility and responsiveness that would make it truly standout in the sports car segment. Despite its ability to handle bends with ease, the driving experience fell short of delivering the thrilling sensation of pushing the car to its limits.
