We recently had the opportunity to test drive the Peugeot e-208, covering over 4000 miles in this electric hatchback. Our experience with the car was quite positive, with a few key points worth mentioning.
Comfort and daily use:
The Peugeot e-208 proved to be a great companion for our journey. Despite the slightly confusing iCockpit layout, the car’s compact size, efficiency, and comfortable “sports” seats made it a joy to drive and easy to park in tight spaces.
Space and storage:
As expected from a hatchback, the e-208 isn’t the roomiest car out there. However, we were able to comfortably fit four adults in the car, and the 311-litre boot was sufficient for everyday use. Golfers may need to fold down the back seats to accommodate their gear, though.
Costs and value:
While the top GT trim we tested came with a hefty price tag of £32,850, the e-208 proved to be cost-effective in terms of efficiency. With an average of 4.1 miles per kWh, we were able to get around 217 miles out of the 51kWh battery, making it a practical choice for daily commuting.
Noises, rattles, and faults:
We didn’t encounter any issues with the e-208 during our time with it, highlighting its solid build quality and reliability.
Is it fun to drive?
Absolutely. The e-208’s short wheelbase and immediate torque from the 154bhp motor made it a blast to drive, especially on twisty roads. The car’s nimble handling and go-kart feel made it a joy to take off the motorways.
Interior:
Peugeot’s interior design in the e-208 is top-notch. The quirky design elements, such as the piano key-style physical buttons, snug and comfortable seats, and user-friendly infotainment system, all added to the overall driving experience. The small steering wheel, although unconventional, also proved to be a great feature.
iCockpit:
While the iCockpit design has its merits, we found it to be a bit flawed in terms of ergonomics. The positioning of the steering wheel obstructed the view of the speedometer in our preferred seating position, requiring us to adjust it uncomfortably low.
Overall, our experience with the Peugeot e-208 was largely positive. Despite a few minor drawbacks, such as the iCockpit layout, the car’s efficiency, comfort, and fun driving dynamics make it a solid choice in the electric hatchback segment.
