The Porsche 911 GT3 has solidified its reputation as a true track beast by setting a new record at the Nürburgring, making it the fastest manual car to lap the iconic circuit. With ex-racer Jörg Bergmeister behind the wheel, the updated ‘992.2’ model clocked in an impressive time of 6 minutes and 56.294 seconds, beating the previous record holder by nearly 10 seconds. This accomplishment showcases the precision engineering and performance prowess of Porsche’s legendary sports car.

The new lap time not only outperformed the pre-facelift GT3 with a PDK automatic gearbox by 3.6 seconds, but it also surpassed the record set by the Dodge Viper ACR, a car with a significantly more powerful engine. The American supercar, boasting a 645bhp 8.4-liter V10, had previously held the title with a time of 7 minutes and 1.3 seconds on the shortened 20.6km circuit. However, when adjusted to the full-length 20.832km loop, the GT3’s manual transmission variant outshined the Viper by 9.5 seconds.

Equipped with the optional Weissach package, which includes weight-saving measures to trim 12kg off the standard GT3, and fitted with road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tires, the GT3 was primed for its record-breaking run. Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche’s GT division, expressed pride in the achievement, noting the increasing popularity of the six-speed manual transmission among GT3 customers. Despite knowing that the PDK variant is faster, Porsche wanted to showcase the capabilities of the manual gearbox by setting an official lap time at the Nürburgring.

This impressive feat underscores the relentless pursuit of performance excellence by Porsche and solidifies the 911 GT3’s status as a benchmark for sports cars. With its combination of precision engineering, cutting-edge technology, and pure driving excitement, the GT3 continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible on the track. Experience the thrill of the fastest manual car at the Nürburgring with the Porsche 911 GT3.
