Porsche Unveils Updated 911 GT3 to Mark 25th Anniversary
Porsche is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 911 GT3 with a range of updates for its track-focused halo model, promising a new look, enhanced options, and a more exhilarating driving experience.
The latest iteration of the iconic 911 GT3 comes with a starting price of £157,300, a quarter of a century after the GT3 name was first introduced for the race-inspired variant of the 996-generation 911.
Key enhancements include subtle mechanical tweaks such as revised cylinder heads, sharper camshafts borrowed from the GT3 RS, improved oil coolers, and new throttle valves for improved airflow.
In order to meet the latest emissions regulations, the GT3 now features two particulate filters and four catalytic converters while still delivering an engaging engine sound experience.
The 503bhp and 347lb ft output remains unchanged, with the car still capable of revving up to 9000rpm and offering a choice between a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The 0-62mph sprint times are 3.9sec and 3.4sec respectively, with both gearboxes benefiting from an 8% reduction in final drive ratio.
Furthermore, the dampers have been fine-tuned to enhance control over bumps and kerbs, while the anti-dive system has been updated to minimize forward pitch during braking.
For the upcoming year, Porsche is introducing the option of a back seat in the road-oriented 911 GT3 Touring model. This addition requires the installation of new carbon-fibre front seats with a folding backrest to access the rear seats.
Drivers opting for the two-seater Touring model can still choose the plush 18-way adjustable sports seats for added comfort.
The refreshed GT3 stands out with subtle front and rear end redesigns, incorporating new aerodynamic elements along with updated Matrix LED headlights and a larger front air intake.
Andreas Preuninger, the head of Porsche’s GT division, praised the updated GT3 as being “more exhilarating and individual” than its predecessor. He highlighted the attention to detail and customer feedback that went into enhancing the GT3, allowing for greater customization based on driver preferences.
