Porsche Teases Le Mans Car for the Road
Porsche seems to be hinting at the development of a road-ready Le Mans car, possibly set to be unveiled at the prestigious 24-hour race in June. A mysterious teaser image released by the German automaker showcases a side profile of the 963 hypercar, currently competing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
During the reveal, Porsche made several references to the iconic 917, a legendary endurance car that was adapted for road use five decades ago. The brand highlighted the story of chassis 030, originally intended for track racing but later sold to Count Rossi di Montelera in 1974, who converted it for road usage.
Reflecting on the past transformation of the 917, Porsche posed the question “what if?” before unveiling the shadowy image of the modern 963 hypercar.
The 963 is equipped with an electrically assisted twin-turbocharged 4.6-litre V8 engine, a powerplant derived from the acclaimed Porsche 918 Spyder supercar. With a maximum output of 671bhp, the engine’s performance in WEC races is regulated by Balance of Performance rules.
While Porsche has not officially confirmed the production of a road-going 963, it is speculated that such a model would be either a unique creation or produced in an extremely limited quantity.
