Proton Holdings Berhad, Malaysia’s national car-maker, recently announced the establishment of a new subsidiary, Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PIC), to strengthen its export business. Led by former director of Proton’s International Sales Division, Edmund Lim Meng Thong, PIC aims to enhance Proton’s presence in international markets and drive overseas growth.
Recognizing the significance of export sales in driving future expansion, Proton has set ambitious targets for PIC. The company aims to increase overseas sales tenfold over the next five years, starting with 6,000 vehicles in 2025 and doubling to 12,000 units by 2026. This growth strategy will focus on entering new markets in the Global South while expanding existing sales and marketing efforts globally.
Proton’s top-selling models in foreign markets include the Saga sedan, Proton X50, and X70, all of which have seen strong demand in recent years. Additionally, the newly launched e.MAS 7 battery electric vehicle (BEV), based on a Geely model, has gained traction with 916 shipments this year.
