Qualcomm Technologies has recently finalized the acquisition of Autotalks, a fabless semiconductor company specializing in vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. This acquisition is aimed at enhancing V2X deployments, improving road safety, and optimizing automated driving and traffic efficiency.

The integration of Autotalks’ products into Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio will support various global communication standards, including DSRC and C-V2X, which encompass LTE-V2X and 5G-V2X technologies. This strategic move is expected to deliver cutting-edge solutions that prioritize road safety and traffic optimization.

Nakul Duggal, General Manager of Qualcomm Technologies Automotive and Industrial & Embedded IoT Group, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “As automotive systems become increasingly complex, the importance of safety features has never been higher. Together, we will deliver reliable solutions to enhance road safety and optimize traffic efficiency.”

The V2X technologies developed through this acquisition are designed for deployment in vehicles, roadside infrastructure, and two-wheelers, facilitating direct communication to address safety and efficiency challenges. These solutions are set to advance the development of advanced safety features and premium experiences in assisted and automated driving for next-generation vehicles.

Autotalks’ existing DSRC and C-V2X programs will continue to receive support, with a roadmap focused on enhancing safety for all road users. The integration of Autotalks’ solutions into safety-grade architectures ensures compatibility and effectiveness across different regions and vehicle types.

Qualcomm emphasizes that V2X technologies have the potential to reduce collisions by enabling vehicles to communicate directly with each other and their surrounding environment. This acquisition aligns with Qualcomm’s ongoing efforts to advance V2X solutions for connected and automated vehicles, driving global deployment and strengthening their Snapdragon Digital Chassis product portfolio.
