Ram’s highly anticipated all-electric pickup truck has been officially canceled by Stellantis for the US market. The company cited slowing demand for battery-electric trucks in North America as the reason for discontinuing development of the full-size electric Ram pickup.
Originally scheduled to launch by the end of 2024, the electric Ram pickup faced multiple delays, with its release pushed back to 2025, then 2026, and finally to mid-2027 before being canceled altogether. The vehicle, which promised to offer more range, power, and capability than its competitors, will be replaced by the Ram 1500 REV, a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV).
Former CEO Carlos Tavares had boasted that the electric Ram pickup would outperform all competitors in terms of range, towing capacity, and charging times. The vehicle was expected to feature a massive 168 kWh battery providing 350 miles of range, with an even larger 229 kWh battery option offering at least 500 miles of range.
In place of the electric pickup, the Ram 1500 REV, formerly known as the Ramcharger, will be introduced. This REEV pickup boasts a 92 kWh battery, a 3.6 L V-6 engine, a 27-gallon gas tank, and dual electric motors, providing up to 690 miles of range. The vehicle is said to have around 145 miles of electric range and is the most powerful pickup in Ram’s lineup, with up to 647 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque.
The interior of the Ram 1500 REV is equipped with large screens, including a 14.5″ infotainment display, a 12.3″ driver display, and a 10.25″ passenger display, similar to the Jeep Wagoneer S. The vehicle is expected to launch in early 2026 with a starting price of around $75,000.
Despite the cancellation of the electric Ram pickup, Stellantis remains committed to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and performance with its upcoming lineup of vehicles.
