Range Rover is set to launch its first electric SUV later this year, marking a significant milestone for the iconic luxury brand known for its off-road capabilities and elegant design. The upcoming electric vehicle promises to stay true to the Range Rover heritage while offering the benefits of an electric powertrain.
Early reviews of the Range Rover Electric prototype have been positive, with testers praising the vehicle’s calm and assured demeanor on the road. The electric SUV is based on the MLA platform and features JLR’s new in-house powertrain, which includes a dual-motor setup delivering 542 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. The vehicle is equipped with a massive 118 kWh battery, providing an estimated range of 300 miles.
While JLR engineers acknowledge that the SUV’s aerodynamic profile may impact its highway range, they highlight the vehicle’s 800V architecture, which offers fast DC charging speeds. The Range Rover Electric can also tow over 7,700 lbs, making it a capable option for hauling purposes.
Inside, the cabin of the electric SUV closely resembles that of the current Range Rover model, featuring a mix of digital screens and physical buttons. The vehicle includes JLR’s new thermal management system, ThermAssist, which offers improved efficiency compared to previous models.
The Range Rover Electric will be offered in standard and long wheelbase variants, with the extended wheelbase model providing ample second-row space comparable to luxury brands like Bentley or Rolls-Royce. Pricing details have yet to be announced, but JLR is reportedly aiming for a price around £150,000 ($200,000).
With over 61,000 clients on the waitlist for the electric SUV, Range Rover’s first EV is generating significant interest ahead of its official launch. The luxury brand has also unveiled its new logo, hinting at a fresh direction for the Range Rover lineup.
Overall, the Range Rover Electric promises to deliver a blend of luxury, performance, and sustainability, setting a new standard for electric SUVs in the market. Stay tuned for more updates as the vehicle nears its debut later this year.
