The St James’s Spectacle: A Celebration of Automotive History

The organiser of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run has revealed an exciting addition to this year’s event – the St James’s Spectacle. This new car show will showcase landmark models from the history of motoring and is free for all to attend. The event will take place on London’s Pall Mall on Saturday 2 November, the day before the iconic London to Brighton Run.

One of the main highlights of the Spectacle is a concours event featuring 75 pre-1905 cars. These vintage vehicles will be judged by industry experts and television personalities such as Edd China and Alan Titchmarsh. In addition to the concours, there will be several zones at the event that will highlight the past and future of the motor industry.

The Heritage Display area will take attendees on a journey through the history of the automotive industry. From horse-drawn carriages to steam-powered cars and modern electric vehicles, this area will showcase the evolution of transportation. The event will also celebrate significant milestones, including 125 years of Fiat and Renault, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Volkswagen Golf.

For those interested in modern design, the Modern Design showcase will feature a mix of classic and new supercars. From a 1904 Mercedes Simplex to a Subaru Impreza rally car, attendees will have the chance to admire a range of iconic vehicles. Highlights of the showcase include the Aston Martin Valkyrie and a Porsche 963 hypercar that competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club, Duncan Wiltshire, expressed his excitement for the event, stating, “The Spectacle really will live up to its name. Whether it’s the extraordinary collection of Victorian and Edwardian pioneers or the glittering array of equally innovative hypercars, Pall Mall will be packed with automotive legends past, present, and future. And, best of all, everyone can enjoy the Spectacle for free.”
