A recent regulatory filing has provided more details about the first model of Nio’s sub-brand Firefly, shedding light on the battery pack and range of this new electric vehicle. The model, known as NAL7000BSEVY1, is a battery electric vehicle that supports battery swap technology, as confirmed by a filing catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The Firefly model is equipped with a 42.1 kWh battery pack, which enables it to achieve a range of 420 kilometers under the CLTC standard. The vehicle weighs 1,492 kilograms, with the power battery pack accounting for 314 kilograms of the total weight. This results in an energy consumption rate of approximately 10 kWh per 100 kilometers, with the battery pack boasting an energy density of 134 Wh/kg.

In comparison to Nio’s other sub-brand Onvo, the Firefly model offers a more efficient energy consumption rate. The L60 model from Onvo consumes around 12.1 kWh per 100 kilometers, showcasing Firefly’s superior performance in this aspect. Additionally, the Firefly model competes favorably with the entry-level version of Tesla’s facelifted Model Y, which consumes 10.5 kWh per 100 kilometers.

Nio officially unveiled the Firefly brand at Nio Day 2024 with the aim of challenging established players like BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz’s Smart in the global market. The Firefly model, positioned as a premium boutique small car, went on pre-sales in China for RMB 148,800 yuan ($20,490) in December, with a scheduled launch in April.

A notable feature of the Firefly model is the use of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from Sunwoda, marking the first collaboration between the battery maker and Nio. Sunwoda, known for its expertise in cell phone batteries, entered the electric vehicle supply chain with this partnership.

The Firefly model, powered by a single motor from Nio’s motor division XPT, offers a peak power of 105 kW and a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour. With dimensions of 4,003 mm in length, 1,781 mm in width, and 1,557 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,615 mm, the Firefly model promises a comfortable and stylish driving experience.

Overall, the Firefly model represents Nio’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle market, combining cutting-edge technology with elegant design to appeal to discerning customers worldwide.
